Through our global health outreach events program, the ASE Foundation brings adult and pediatric cardiac care to areas in need, teaching local clinicians and providing direct patient services to at-risk communities. Being on the ground in many areas of the world has immeasurable benefits to the field: stimulating global connections between health care providers; advancing population health research through data collection; teaching local professionals enhanced techniques and skills; fostering dialogue with engineers and manufacturers on field tests in remote conditions; and, ultimately, providing quality diagnostic cardiac care to the underserved.

Adams Global Service Award
The Adams Global Service Award is a $1,500 travel grant given annually to one sonographer global health outreach volunteer. This award was established in 2016 in honor of David B. Adams, ACS, RCS, RDCS, FASE, previously of Duke University Medical Center, Durham, North Carolina. Mr. Adams has contributed to the success of the ASEF global health outreach events with his international mission experience, clinical skills, and leadership abilities. Application for this award is included in the global health event volunteer application form.
Tatum Global Health Travel Grant
The Tatum Global Health Travel Grant is a $1,500 travel grant given annually to a cardiologist or sonographer working in pediatric and congenital heart disease who is participating in an ASEF outreach event for the first time. This grant was created in memory of ASE member Gregory H. Tatum, MD, FASE, who we lost to cancer in 2022. Greg had a passion for global health work, and we hope this grant will encourage and support others to follow in his footsteps. Application is included in the global health event volunteer application form.
